NOTE: the Hokuriku Shinkansen Kagayaki train does not stop at Takasaki Station.

The last direct Takasaki-bound Shinkansen leaves Nagano Station at 9:45PM.

Cheapest route to Takasaki

There is no direct local train line that connects Nagano Station with Takasaki Station. In order to use local trains to travel between the two, you have to make at least 3 transfers and ride a bus, which costs roughly ¥ 2,700 and can take anywhere from 3-4 hours depending on wait times. For these reasons, we recommend using the Shinkansen instead.

 

 

Karuizawa Station

Board the Hokuriku Shinkansen (Asama train) from Karuizawa Station → Arrive at Takasaki Station.

Cheapest route to Takasaki

It is possible to board the JR Kanto bus (bound for Yokokawa Station) → Transfer to the JR Shinetsu Main Line (bound for Takasaki) at Yokokawa Station → Arrive at Takasaki Station.

However this route, which costs ¥ 1,026, will take about 1.5+ hours depending on wait times. Compared to the 15min route by Shinkansen, we recommend taking the shinkansen instead.

 


 

From Tochigi/Nikko

 

Nikko Station | Tobu Nikko Station

 

Fastest route to Takasaki

Board the JR Nikko Line (bound for Utsunomiya) from Nikko Station → Transfer to the JR Shinkansen (Nasuno, Tsubasa or Yamabiko trains) (bound for Tokyo) → Transfer to the Joetsu or Hokuriku Shinkansen (Toki, Tanigawa, Asama or Hakutaka trains) → Arrive at Takasaki Station.

Board the Joetsu Shinkansen (Toki train) from Niigata Station  → Arrive at Takasaki Station.

NOTE: An express Joetsu Shinkansen Toki train does not stop at Takasaki Station.

The last Takasaki-bound Shinkansen leaves Niigata Station at 9:35PM.

Cheapest route to Takasaki

It is possible to board the JR line (bound for Nagaoka) → Transfer to the JR Joetsu line (bound for Minakami) at Nagaoka Station → Transfer to the JR Joetsu line (bound for Takasaki) at Minakami Station → Arrive at Takasaki Station.

However this route, which costs ¥ 4,070, will take about 5+ hours depending on wait times. So we don’t recommend this route for visitors.
