By Bus

(most direct, easiest option for travelers with large bags)

 

To Takasaki, Maebashi, or Ikaho

Take the Azalea Express Airport Line (operated by Kan-etsu Transportation) to Takasaki Station or Maebashi Station.

Buses run about once an hour. Last bus leaves Narita at 9 PM. Also runs once a day to Ikaho Onsen.

 

Time: 3 hours to Takasaki, or 3.5 hours to Maebashi

Price: ¥4,750 (Takasaki, Maebashi),  ¥5,300 (Ikaho)

Children are half price.

Tickets: Keisei Bus ticket counter in any airport terminal. Major credit cards accepted. Not possible to buy in advance for departures from the airport.

To Ota, Oizumi, Ora, or Tatebayashi

Take the Ota Line Maple (operated by Kanto Transportation or Chiba Kotsu).

Buses run every 2-3 hours. Last bus leaves Narita at 9:05 PM.

 

Time: 3 hours to Ota, or 2 hours to Tatebayashi

Price: ¥4,500 (Ota, Oizumi, Ora), ¥4,100 to Tatebayashi.

Children are half price.

Tickets: Keisei Bus ticket counter in any airport terminal. Major credit cards accepted. Not possible to buy in advance for departures from the airport.

To Kiryu

Take the Kiryu Line Salvia (operated by Chiba Kotsu or Kanto Transportation).

5 departures per day. Last bus leaves Narita at 9:05 PM.

 

Time: 3 hours to Kiryu

Price: ¥4,500

Children are half price.

By Train

(cheaper OR faster, but not both)

 

Fastest route to Takasaki or Minakami (Jomo-Kogen)

Narita Airport (Terminal 1 or Terminal 2) → Keisei Skyliner → Transfer at Ueno Station → Joestu Shinkansen (bullet train) → Arrive at Takasaki Station or Jomo-Kogen Station (Minakami)

This combination runs up to 3 times an hour during the day, and at least once an hour early morning and late night. Last train to catch this route leaves Narita at 10:00 PM (but if you miss it, there are slower trains that run later).

 

Total price w/ reserved seat: ¥ 7,130 to Takasaki,  ¥8,130 to Minakami (Jomo-Kogen)

Total price without reserved Shinkansen seat: ¥ 6,800 to Takasaki,  ¥7,800 to Minakami

Total time: 2 hours to Takasaki, or about 2 hrs 20 mins to Minakami

Tickets: Buy a Keisei Skyliner ticket at the Keisei ticket counter or ticket machines in the train station underneath Narita Airport (either terminal). It will cost ¥2,520, payable by cash, credit, or IC card balance. There are only reserved seats.

Buy your JR Shinkansen ticket either at the JR ticket counter in the station underneath Narita Airport, OR at JR Ueno Station when you transfer. ¥4,280~¥4,610 to Takasaki, or ¥5,280~¥5,610 to Minakami (Jomo-Kogen). Choose between a reserved seat or slightly cheaper unreserved seat.

Note about the transfer: It takes about 10-15 minutes of walking to get from the Skyliner at Keisei Ueno Station to the Shinkansen platform at JR Ueno station, so it could be a hassle for anyone with heavy bags.

From Haneda Airport

 

By Bus

(most direct, easiest option for travelers with large bags)

 

To Takasaki and Maebashi

Take the Airport Limousine Bus (operated by Nippon Chuo Bus).

Buses run sporadically during the day and about once an hour in the evening. Last bus leaves Haneda at 10:30 PM.

 

Time: 2-3 hours to Takasaki, or 3-4 hours to Maebashi (Depends on time of day/traffic. Expect longer times during the day and shorter times late-night.)

Price: ¥3,70 (Takasaki, Maebashi),  ¥3,400 (Fujioka)

Children are half price.

Tickets: Available for purchase at Haneda at the bus ticketing counter or the bus ticket vending machines. Major credit cards accepted.

To Isesaki, Kiryu, Ota, Oizumi, Tatebayashi

Take the Airport Limousine Bus (operated by Nippon Chuo Bus).

4 departures per day. (2 departures for Isesaki.) Last bus leaves Haneda at 10:35 PM.

 

Time: 2 hours to Tatebayashi, 2.5 – 3 hours to Ota, or 3.5 – 4 hours to Isesaki (Depends on time of day/traffic. Expect longer times during the day and shorter times late-night.)

Price: ¥3,700 to Isesaki, ¥3,500 to Kiryu, ¥3,200 to Ota, ¥2,900 to Tatebayashi

Children are half price.

Tickets: Available for purchase at Haneda at the bus ticketing counter or the bus ticket vending machines. Major credit cards accepted.

By Train

(cheaper OR faster, but not both)

 

Fastest route to Takasaki or Minakami (Jomo-Kogen)

Haneda Airport (any terminal) → Tokyo Monorail → Transfer at Hamamatsucho → JR Yamanote Line OR JR Keihin Tohoku Line* → Joestu Shinkansen (bullet train) → Arrive at Takasaki Station or Jomo-Kogen Station (Minakami)

Monorail and JR trains run every 4 minutes. Shinkansen trains run about every hour. To catch the last Shinkansen to Takasaki, leave Haneda by 10:15 PM (the last Takasaki-bound Shinkansen leaves Tokyo Station at 11:00 PM).

 

Total price w/ reserved Shinkansen seat: ¥ 5,520 to Takasaki,  ¥ 6,520 to Minakami

Total price w/ UNRESERVED Shinkansen seat: ¥ 4,990 to Takasaki,  ¥ 5,990 to Minakami

Total time: 1.5 hours to Takasaki, or about 1 hour 45 minutes to Minakami

Tickets: Buy a Tokyo Monorail ticket for ¥500 at the Tokyo Monorail ticket vending machines at the Haneda train station, payable with cash or credit. Or use your IC card (Suica, etc.) at the ticket gate.

Buy your JR local line and Shinkansen tickets at Hamamatsu Station, outside the Monorail ticket gates and before you enter the JR ticket gates, at JR reserved seat or Shinkansen ticket vending machine, or inside the JR ticket counter. You will most likely receive several tickets (check out this article if you’re confused) and it will cost you ¥ 4,490~¥ 5,020 to Takasaki, or ¥ 5,490~¥ 6,020 to Jomo-Kogen. Choose between a reserved seat or slightly cheaper unreserved seat.

OR, if you have an IC card (Suica, etc.), tap in regularly at Hamamatsucho, and buy your Shinkansen ticket without leaving the ticketed area at Tokyo Station.
